ELEVATED: One Crown, Many Stories kicked off LOCnificent 2026 weekend with an evening of real conversation and community at Common Ground in Brooklyn.
Moderated by sociologist, author, and assistant professor Dr. Tsedale M. Melaku, the panel explored hair, identity, culture, and the stories our crowns carry. Featured voices included Debra Hare-Bey, founder of International I Love Braids Day®, Sadekie McKoy, founder of CrownedKin Salon, and a surprise appearance by NYC Sheriff Edwin Raymond.
The night also featured an immersive art experience by Atelier Artist, live music by Michael Williams on keys and Jeremy Kelsey on vocals, and food and drinks for guests to enjoy.
Presented by LOCnificent and Culture Unloc'd, with community partners Atelier Artist and NY Beauty Suites.
The celebration continued on Sunday, October 18, at LOCnificent 2026: ELEVATED.
